Meet Gloria

Why Gloria cares.

At age 4, Gloria suffered from severe lead poisoning. After suffering from a fever that would not break in the middle of the night, she went into convulsions. Gloria’s parents, Abe and Shirley, rushed her to the hospital. Thankfully, the doctor on staff that evening immediately ordered a blood lead screening.

Gloria’s blood level was a severe case and required immediate intervention. The treatment, called chelation, required an extensive hospital stay of 2 weeks. During this time, Gloria was away from her parents and her four siblings: Donna, Mary, Eric, and her little brother Ivan. This traumatic experience has stayed with her for many years.

Gloria notes that a blood lead screening is not always a routine response, and many cases can go unrecognized. This experience inspired her passion for helping families understand the hazards of lead poisoning. She goes above and beyond to help families with little children avoid the painful experience she endured.
